Providence Health & Services Speech Language Pathologist in San Pedro, California

Providence is calling a Speech Language Pathologist (Part-Time/Day Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.

We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist who will support the mission, vision, core values, and objectives of Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center located in Torrance and San Pedro. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing patient evaluations, establishing and implementing a plan of care, monitoring patient's progress, interdisciplinary collaboration, discharge planning. The Speech-Language Pathologist should demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills including direct, honest, and compassionate behavior. The Speech Therapist is a licensed professional who is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in accordance with regulatory agencies and the American Speech Therapy Association (ASHA). The Speech Therapist proficient clinical knowledge and skills in providing and initiating treatment programs for individuals with swallowing, speech and cognitive impairments. Utilizing a collaborative team approach in providing care to; young, middle and older adult patients.

In this position you will:

  • Comply with hospital, department, and unit standards, including but not limited to, safety, infection control, quality management, confidentiality, mandatory education, and competencies.

  • Practice in a professional, collaborative, and proactive manner in all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and caregivers:

  • Demonstrating flexibility adjusting to changes in patient acuity and workload

  • Participating in committees and special projects as assigned

  • Identifying risk management issues, taking appropriate actions, and communicating unresolved issues through the appropriate channels

  • Participate in the provision of care:

  • Perform speech/language/cognition/dysphagia assessments

  • Formulate goal directed plans of care based on patient outcomes

  • Initiate, individualize, and modify plan of care

  • Collaborate with other services

  • Implement care based on department, hospital, and national standards:

  • Follow established protocols and procedures

  • Follow ASHLA and California Licensing Board guidelines

  • Competency in select skills including, but not limited to:

  • Perform evaluation and treatment of speech and language, swallowing and cognitive disorders per protocol

  • Provide consultations to physicians and other referring providers

  • Perform appropriate test measures and measures of treatment

  • Establish speech therapy goals (short and long term), plan of treatment and rehab potential in conjunction with the patient, their support system, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to select the most appropriate program for individual patients, based on patient needs and capabilities. Formulate and appropriate discharge plan, re-evaluates the patient, and adjusts goals and plan when necessary.

  • Identify patient/family/caregiver learning needs and Provide appropriate education.

  • Applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served.

  • Areas of specialty may include, but not limited to voice, aphasia, speech production disorders, cognition, and dysphagia management.

  • Practice stewardship in the delivery of care reflecting financial goals of the organization:

  • Use available resources efficiently

  • Understanding of overall unit needs and using downtime to assist others

  • Prioritize commitments and manages multiple tasks effectively

  • Meet established productivity standards of the department

  • Responsibility and accountability for own performance and departments performance in regards to:

  • Attendance and punctuality

  • Comply with department minimum shift requirement and time off procedures

  • Positive customer service, compassionate care, and effective teamwork

  • Obtain necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence

  • Complete all mandatory requirements including current licensure and BLS/RQI

  • Meet all regulatory compliance standards (e.g. Joint Commission, Title 22, and HIPAA)

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited program

  • Current license in Speech-Language Pathology.

  • RQI/BLS certificate.

  • Requires good working knowledge of general and specialized clinical equipment and modalities.

  • Requires ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasks.

  • Requires ability to organize and prioritize work, completes assignments on time.

  • Requires ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative working relationship with patients, families and coworkers.

  • Requires ability to type and use a computer efficiently and proficiency in electronic documentation

  • Requires the ability to work effectively independently and with a team.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year in practice setting
