Providence Health & Services RN - Float Pool in San Pedro, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool - Nursing Administration (Full time/Night shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro in San Pedro, CA.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool - Nursing Administration who will be accountable and responsible for the delivery of direct care to patients individually and through the assignment and direction of the patient focused care team, utilizing a collaborative patient care management process, meeting established standards of nursing care and integrating other health care team members. Respond to patients and families with knowledge of age-specific needs based on the standards of care of unit/department where assigned. The Float Pool Nurse competently floats to several areas in the acute care setting.

Nurse Practice Act – Article 2 Section 2725 of the Business and Professions Code:

The practice of nursing means those functions, including basic health care, which help people cope with difficulties in daily living which are associated with their actual or potential health or illness problems or the treatment thereof which require a substantial amount of scientific knowledge or technical skill and includes:

A.Direct and indirect patient care services that insure the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients; and the performance of disease prevention and restorative measure, passion, respect, honesty, politeness, and accountability when dealing with all customers.

B.Direct and indirect patient care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents, necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative regimen ordered by and within the scope of licensure of a physician, dentist, podiatrist, or clinical psychologist, as defined by Section 1316.6 of the Health and Safety Code.

C.The performance of skin test, immunization techniques, and the withdrawal of human blood from veins and arteries.

D.Observation of signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior, or general physical condition, and:

1.Determination of whether such signs, symptoms, reactions, behavior, or general appearance exhibit abnormal characteristics and

2.Implementation, based on observed abnormalities, or appropriate reporting, or referral, or standardized procedures, or changes in treatment regimen in accordance with standardized procedures, or the initiation of emergency procedures.

In this position you will:

  • Planning:

  • Plan and develop self objectives and goals, identify areas of delegation, sets priorities and target dates for completion and identifies resources needed

  • Collect and analyze data to determine staffing patterns and overall nursing services staffing plans. Uses these data to project staffing needs to hire personnel and to ensure that the nursing unit(s) are staffed according to patient needs

  • Analyze and evaluate nursing and related services rendered to improve quality of patient care and plan better utilization of staff time and activities

  • Research information about programs and projects to facilitate efficient, appropriate and cost effective implementation

  • Organize, pla and direct department functions and activities to comply with long and short-term objectives, and with hospital philosophy and policies

  • Establish (with assistance of management personnel) the department philosophy, goals and objectives, standards and policies and procures to achieve high quality nursing care

  • Plan ways to promote the growth and development of personnel through inservice programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education opportunities

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a safety, fire and disaster program in cooperation with administration and safety committee and assures proper handling and emergency care of patients, personnel, and visitors involved in accidents

  • Outline and interpret to personnel, the nursing services roles in disaster planning

  • Monitor and control the efficient use of equipment, supplies and other hospital assets

  • Implementing:

  • Provide for review and updating of written policies and procedures for the delivery of patient care and unit management

  • Provide for annual performance appraisals for each unit employee

  • Direct the units = performance improvement and safety programs

  • Submit written reports by deadlines

  • Assist management personnel in developing objectives, planned change, policy and procedure development, and monitoring of standards of nursing care.

  • Maintain compliance with nursing care standards, hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency requirements

  • Serve as manager, communicator, participator in institutional policy development and planning, and as evaluator of nursing care

  • Interpret nursing to hospital administration, medical staff and related public

  • Interpret policies, procedures, objectives, standards, philosophy and other matters to personnel

  • Assist management personnel in developing objectives, planned change, policy and procedure development, and monitoring of standards of nursing care

  • Evaluation:

  • Evaluate and analyze incident reports and takes the appropriate follow-up action

  • Continually evaluate the care delivered by regular review of management reports, direct observation and patient rounds, results from PI studies, review of charts and care plans, results of monitoring standards, patient questionnaires, and by other sources. Ensure continual corrective and follow-up action where deficient

  • Evaluate and revise forms to be used in nursing department or that affect nursing services

  • Evaluate facilities and equipment used in the department

  • Marketing:

  • Assist and interact with the Marketing Department in planning and directing the comprehensive community relations activities

  • Promote the unit to service area physicians of the units services program benefits

  • Ensure good liaison relationships with referral sources, contacting physicians to determine level of satisfaction, problems or concerns, needs or possible areas for improvement

  • Documentation/Information Management:

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information

  • Perform documentation on unit and in patient’s record, which is timely, accurate, and concise

  • Utilize and document on patient data base patient monitoring systems (e.g. EKG, Pulse OX, Hemodynamic monitoring)

  • Initiate and contribute to Interdisciplinary Plan of Care daily by incorporating problem and outcome identification, and evaluating effectiveness of the plan of care

  • Ensure that required written consents are executed timely and completely in compliance with hospital policies and outside legal requirements

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Hospital Information System

  • Enter MD orders accurately

  • Obtain results on diagnostic data and communicates and files appropriately

  • Leadership/Supervision:

  • Supervise the planning, coordination, and delivery of patient care activities on the units and among teams

  • Coordinate and/or supervise daily staffing and utilization of healthcare providers according to established standards of care and competencies

  • Interview, select, evaluate, reward, discipline and terminate department staff

  • Assist with supervision of self-scheduling process of staff

  • Develop and revise unit polices and procedures

  • Meet regularly with members of staff

  • Review new employee orientation methods and progress regularly

  • Maintain complete confidentiality of all patient and hospital-related information. No breaches of confidentiality of patient, family, co-workers to public

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Requires California State Registered Nurse license

  • Requires current BLS, ACLS (CCC, Telemetry, Emergency and Labor and Delivery)

  • 2 years Acute hospital experience

  • Strong knowledge base or experience in specialty area assigned (i.e. Maternal-Child Health, Critical Care, Surgery, Med/Surg and Ortho)

  • Must be tactful and proficient in conflict resolution

  • Must be able to work well independently and with a team

  • Judgment must include ability to make accurate, rapid and long-term decisions under pressure

  • Must be able to project a positive self image

  • Must be self motivated

  • Must have good communication skills (oral and written)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing
