Providence Recreational Therapist in San Pedro, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Recreational Therapist (Per diem/Day shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro, CA.

W are seeking a Recreational Therapist who will implement and coordinate therapeutic activity programming for adult and geriatric age inpatient population. Evaluate and establish individualized treatment plans, and documents progress towards treatment goals. Contribute towards a safe therapeutic atmosphere.

In this position you will:

  • Provide age appropriate direct service to adult and geriatric patients which include: Recreational assessments, activities of daily living, symptom management, leisure, and music therapy groups

  • Review medical record and completes intervention with emphasis on identification of issues related to recreational assessment, treatment plan, intervention/referral and follow-up

  • Actively participate in patient care rounds/case conferences

  • Proactively identify unmet patient needs in area of expertise and initiates programs/services

  • Attend a minimum of two conferences and/or classes/programs annually

  • Consistently prioritize caseload by completing assigned work with minimal assistance

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of reporting responsibilities and shares with healthcare team evidenced by providing employee in-services as the need is identified

  • Collaborate with other department staff relative to shared cases in a timely manner

  • Actively participate in hospital and community programs and committees pertinent to areas of service

  • Concentrate on area of assignment but maintains the flexibility to perform routine duties in any area of the hospital

  • Assist the department in special projects, as assigned

  • Documentation/Information Management:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the hospital Information System

  • Practice professional confidentiality and serves as a role model for others

  • Document appropriate information pertaining to the individual patient in a specific, accurate and thorough manner to allow for follow-up problem/resolution

  • Maintain proficiency in computer and written documentation as defined by department guidelines

  • Keep an updated personnel record per facility policy (i.e., PPD, Educational Record)

  • Leadership/Supervision:

  • Practice in a professional and knowledgeable manner

  • Serve as an internal resource for others regarding recreational issues in patient care

  • Act as role model and maintains a positive approach to change

  • Practice effective two-way communication

  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate decisions within the scope of responsibility

  • Provide in-services to others on the healthcare team (i.e., Speakers Bureau)

  • Provide orientation to new employees/students, as requested

  • Provide clinical consultation to staff/physicians regarding the recreational aspects of patient care, assisting others to improve their knowledge base

  • Set valuable and attainable annual objectives

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • BS/BA degree in Recreation, Occupational, Art, Music and/or Movement therapy

  • CPI or equivalent within 90 days of hire

  • BLS

  • 6 months experience in an acute psychiatric setting

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age served on the unit (adult, 18yr-65 and geriatric 65yr )

  • Knowledge of life span, growth and development

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to implement therapeutic activities

  • Able to document process clearly

  • Ability to evaluate and identify dysfunctional deficits and behaviors
