We are seeking a Physical Therapist, Lead who will be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in accordance with regulatory agencies and the American Physical Therapy Association Practice Act (APTA). The Lead Physical Therapist acts as a team leader and clinical resource to the rehabilitation staff. S/he demonstrates refined clinical knowledge and skills in providing and initiating treatment programs for individuals with physical impairments or disruptions in life skills to promote optimal independence, utilizing a collaborative team approach in providing care to; pediatric, adolescent, young, middle and older adult patients.
The Lead Physical Therapist is responsible for coordinating the effective functioning of inpatient / acute physical therapy services. Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orienting, training and development of employees. S/he assists the Rehabilitation manager in supporting the philosophy, objectives and policies of the Little Company of Mary.
In this position you will:
Comply with hospital, department, and unit standards, including but not limited to, safety, infection control, quality management, confidentiality, mandatory education, and competencies.
Facilitate teamwork and effective communication between physicians, staff and administration by participating in an environment characterized by the core values of Providence
Practice in a professional, collaborative, and proactive manner in all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and caregivers:
Demonstrating flexibility adjusting to changes in patient acuity and workload
Participating in committees and special projects as assigned
Identifying risk management issues, taking appropriate actions, and communicating unresolved issues through the appropriate channels
Participate in the provision of care:
Perform patient assessments
Formulate goal directed plans of care based on patient outcomes
Initiate, individualize, and modifies plans of care
Collaborate with other services
Implement care based on department, hospital, and national standard
Follow established protocols and procedures
Follow APTA and California Licensing Board guidelines
Demonstrate competency in select skills including, but not limited to:
Perform evaluations such as wounds, strength, sensation, gait, balance, and function
Perform techniques such as gait training, transfer training, therapeutic exercise, balance, and neuromuscular re-education
Utilize equipment such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation devices, TENS, laser therapy and light therapy
Establish physical therapy goals (short and long term), plan of treatment and rehab potential in conjunction with the patient, their support system, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to select the most appropriate program for individual patients, based on patient needs and capabilities
Formulate and appropriate discharge plan, re-evaluates the patient, and adjusts goals and plan when necessary
Identify patient/family/caregiver learning needs and provides appropriate education
Demonstrate applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served
Areas of specialty may include, but not limited to: Orthopedics, Stroke/Neurologic, Oncology, Lymphedema, ICU, Cardiac, Parkinson’s (LSVT-BIG), NICU/Infant, Post-Surgical, Pediatrics, Wound Care and Vertigo
Practice stewardship in the delivery of care reflecting financial goals of the organization.
Use available resources efficiently
Demonstrate understanding of overall unit needs and using downtime to assist others
Prioritize commitments and manages multiple tasks effectively
Meet established productivity standards of the department
Performance demonstrates responsibility and accountability:
Attendance and punctuality
Comply with department minimum shift and time off procedures
Positive customer service, compassionate care, and effective teamwork
Obtain necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence
Complete all mandatory requirements including current licensure and BLS/RQI
Meet all regulatory compliance standards (e.g. Joint Commission, Title 22, and HIPAA)
Specific to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) assignment:
Participate in NICU discharge planning conferences, case and family conferences, and discharge planning activities
Coordinate with CCS Case Manager for referral to CCS-Paneled provider or CCS Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) for patients who continue to require therapy services after hospital discharge
Perform tasks assigned by supervisor or management and meets the stated objective of the task
Participate in special assignments as required
Give on-the-job direction to P.T. assistants, aides, and volunteers
Give input to hiring decisions and employee performance evaluations
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Accredited Physical Therapy Program
Current California State Physical Therapy License
Two (2) years of Clinical experience
No NICU-1 year of clinical experience providing PT to infants or children with CCS eligible medical condition
Good working knowledge of general and specialized clinical equipment
Able to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasks
Able to organize and prioritize work, completes assignments on time
Able to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative working relationship with patients, families and coworkers
Able to type and use a computer efficiently
Able to work effectively independently and with a team
Good organizational and interpersonal skills to facilitate and manage change
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree -or- D.P.T. in Accredited Physical Therapy Program
