Providence Health & Services Department Assistant - Radiology/Imaging Services in San Pedro, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Department Assistant - Radiology/Imaging Services (Per Diem/Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company Of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.

We are seeking a Department Assistant - Radiology/Imaging Services that is a Non-licensed healthcare employee who is accountable to and work under the direct supervision of the Imaging Services Lead Technologist to implement delegated aspects of care, and assist in direct and indirect patient care. May include some clerical duties.

Provide patient transport to the following age group: Pediatrics to older adults.

In this position you will:

  • Transportation:

  • Assist the staff in the Imaging Department by transporting patients to and from the following areas: Diagnostic Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine

  • Assist in moving all patients’ on and off the x-ray tables

  • Assure patients are signed on and off of the unit, checks armbands and brings chart to the unit

  • Assure gurneys and wheelchairs are cleaned between patients and stored in an orderly manner

  • Rotate shifts, weekends, holidays as needed or required. Floats to other areas, as needed

  • Under the direction of the Imaging Services Lead Technologist, implements interventions to promote optimum patient outcomes. Understands limitations and seeks appropriate assistance, as needed. Provides both direct and indirect patient care by safely performing the following:

  • Escort outpatients to and from MRI and dressing rooms

  • Prepare patient for examination, assures history sheets are completed

  • Assist with procedures under the direct supervision of a technologist or physician

  • Retrieve supplies from supply areas

  • Run errands for the Director and Imaging staff, as requested

  • Clerical/Secretarial Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer phones promptly, courteously and by identifying department and self

  • Properly routes all incoming calls or takes messages effectively

  • Assist with the file room duties, filing reports, order entry, physician orders, and history sheets

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

  • Prepare paperwork, questionnaires and charts for next day appointments

  • Maintain a Safe and Clean Environment:

  • Understand and utilizes standard precautions

  • Possess a basic knowledge of asepsis and properly disposes of bio hazardous waste

  • Notify nursing and technical staff regarding isolation needs of the patients being transported

  • Attend and participates in staff meetings and in-services relevant to position

  • Assist technologists in maintaining full O2 tanks and in an orderly manner

  • Clean gurney and wheelchairs in between each patient

  • DOCUMENTATION/INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the Hospital Information System

  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and compliance in respect to patient care. Maintains complete confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information. Secures and handles patient records maintaining patient confidentiality with respect to patient and family rights

  • Retrieve reports and is proficient in the use of copier, fax and printer

  • LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION:

  • Lead by example in demonstrated work ethic

  • Attendance: reports to work each regularly scheduled workday. Accurately records all work time including meal period

  • Punctuality: Ready for work at precise starting time and continues working until scheduled departure time. Returns on time from all meal period

  • Appearance: Projects a professional image, follows the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wears hospital name badge at all times on dut

  • General Work Habits: Readily accepts work assignments in a positive manner. Performs work that is accurate, neat and consistent. Documentation is legible

  • Assist and provide orientation/training of new employees and students

  • DEVELOPMENT:

  • Attend all assigned staff development activities including minimum attendance at all scheduled staff and hospital meetings

  • Participate in all in-services and cross training activities as necessary

  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and practice

  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:

  • Actively participates in the performance improvement process

  • Offer suggestions for departmental and/or hospital-wide Performance/Process Improvement

  • BUDGETARY:

  • Maintain a knowledge base of the unit's budgetary constraints in regards to staffing, supplies, and equipment

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings. Reports to supervisor any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement

  • Current BCLS certification

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families, visitors, hospital staff and co-workers
