Providence Chaplain in San Pedro, California
Providence is calling a Chaplain (Per-Diem/Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.
We are seeking a Chapl ain who will provide spiritual care and support to patients, families, and staff and performs or arranges for religious services to meet patient needs. Demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age specific patient population (e.g., adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education.
In this position you will:
Consult with hospital staff regarding ministry. Collaborates with members of the hospice or health care team in identifying and resolving issues. Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital or hospice staff during periods of crisis, e.g. illness, dying, lengthy or difficult surgery.
Promote spiritual/emotional support among staff and volunteers.
Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
Make initial spiritual assessment. Provides spiritual and emotional support to patients/families.
Evaluate patient needs for spiritual care and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs. Integrates this plan of care into the interdisciplinary plan of care.
Determine and support spiritual practices in keeping with the patient's and family's religious tradition.
Facilitate religious services. Administers the sacraments and performs religious rites as appropriate.
Meet with patients and employees upon request for private counseling. Meets with discharged patients who have indicated the need for such follow up.
Complete medical chart documentation as required.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
Attend meetings as required.
Provide community outreach in the form of support groups for holistic healing, educational programs for local congregations, and Memorial Services.
Act as liaison between local clergy and patients in relation to their ongoing care within their own religious tradition.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Divinity or equivalent degree.
MOAB I within 30 to 150 days of hire.
Provide documentation of current endorsement of, or good standing in a denomination in accordance with the requirements of his/her faith tradition.
Secure faculties from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to perform priestly functions within 6 months of hire.
Certification as a chaplain by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, the Association of Professional Chaplains or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains or the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education is encouraged within two years of hire. (Providence Standards of Excellence for Spiritual Care, Standard III, Article 29)
- Provide documentation of a minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), the National Association of Catholic Chaplains , or the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (CAPPE/ACPEP).
